The annual hot air balloon festival in remote Montague, CA is an event I've been attending since we moved to Southern Oregon in 2004. Though relatively small as hot air balloon festivals go, the spacious landscape is especially appealing to my eye. This image was taken during the recent 2009 festival.

After helping my friend Vitaly put his inflatable canoe on a Hyatt Lake pier to dry, I spotted a young fisherman on the end of the pier. The color connection attracted my attention.

I'm continually on the alert for appealing design no matter what the subject matter. In addition to its abstract design, the unusual color formations of "Rock Motif," taken along the Klamath River in CA, were mesmerizing.

I find it difficult to photograph Crater Lake in a way that hasn't been done already. Its rare when an image expresses a new take on the grandeur and deep quiet of this breathtaking National Park and being there at the right time is crucial. Knowing the weather is not a predictable thing, I enjoy searching for unique foregrounds. "Lake Tourist" is a recent result.

One of my earliest visual memories was spotting a cluster of sunlit trees against a very dark sky. I had no words for it, but the feeling was palpable. "Pampas Grass" was taken in similar circumstances.

I enjoy visiting Margie Mee's garden in Ashland where I often find captivating subjects. Last June I uncovered "Love in a Mist." When I visited a few days ago, There were a large number of American Goldfinches congregating around her feeder, including many brilliantly colored males. Mossy Oak II was taken during a recent walk to the top of Lower Table Rock in SW Oregon's Sam's Valley. Originally from PA, where I can't recall ever seeing moss on trees, I continue to be amazed by this phenomenon.

Pompadour Drive is named after nearby Pompadour Bluff Cliff, a prominent landmark just outside of Ashland. I have always been drawn to the curling driveway in the distance.

I love the look of moss, which often appears on deciduous trees in the Pacific Northwest. It forms when temperatures are above freezing and its growth shuts down when temperatures get warm and water is unavailable. This oak was taken at Lower Table Rock near Central Point in The Rogue Valley.

One of my favorite landscape locations is west of Ashland in The Applegate, a valley dotted with farms and a growing number of wineries. "Applegate Cloudscape" is the backdrop of a dairy farm on Jacksonville Highway in this valley.
