Teasel and Rosehips II
The repetition of teasel cones, and their size variations as they disappear into the horizon line, especially on foggy days, never fails to inspire me.

Dancing Tree
Fog created space between a leaning tree and the orchard behind it on Emigrant Creek Road in Ashland

Tree and Fence II
This tree is on a hill overlooking Interstate 5 near the Talent, OR exit. I've been wanting to photograph it since we moved to Oregon over 7 years ago and finally figured out a good way to access it without parking my car on the Interstate shoulder.

Barn Presence
I've passed this barn along East Nevada Street in Ashland many times, but never took the time to stop. On this day a light fog drew me right in. I added texture for a more "Wyethesque" feeling, perhaps in some part influenced by my former stomping grounds near Chester County, PA where the Wyeth's lived and worked.

Yaquina Head II
Whenever I'm near Newport on The Oregon Coast, I visit nearby Yaquina Head, one of my favorite spots on the coast.

Teasel and Horse
Hoarfrost on teasel, a result of freezing temperatures and fog, created an ideal setting for this handsome equine near Phoenix, OR

Lake Calm
Last weekend, Joany and I stayed at Chinook Aerie, a delightful artist and spiritual retreat center in Worden, OR, very close to Lower Klamath Lake. I spent most of my time exploring the Klamath Basin while Joany stayed at the center creating new work and taking walks. Lake Calm was taken at Eagle Ridge County Park, which juts out into the Upper Klamath Lake.

Farm Dogs
As I was getting in my car at Tark's Grocery in Talent, OR, I noticed two dogs out the corner of my eye and quickly grabbed my camera.

Three Cabins and a Barn
I've driven past the cabins and barns at Modoc Orchard in Sams Valley many times and each time have had the urge to explore this rustic group of structures, most of which are no longer in use. The opportunity to photograph came last week.

Dahlias Mourned
Thanks to Soleil and Wolfgang for sharing the enchantment of their lovely Ashland garden. As with this photograph, I am intrigued by the unique way each flower finds its way back to the earth.

Circa Pacific City
It's quite common for me to overlook a work that I've just photographed only to revisit it at a later time and find that I particularly like it. Such is the case with "Circa Pacific City" taken on the Oregon Coast a few years back.

Grilled
I can't seem to drive by old, broken-down cars or trucks without a strong desire to stop and photograph. It's particularly satisfying to find them blending into the abutting landscape.

Pear Crates
Pears populate large parcels of land in Southern Oregon's beautiful Rogue River Valley. As far as I know, the blossoming tree in this photograph is not a pear tree. However, the crates are used to transport pears once they're harvested in the fall.

Ocean at Gold Beach
I'm particularly drawn to the Oregon Coast during the off season when the ocean feels wilder, the sky moodier and there are fewer tourists.

Road Blur
Over the last couple of months I've been experimenting with slow shutter speeds to create blurred images. It particularly appeals to me since I'm never sure what my results are going to be. There are many variables, mainly around the effects that different shutter speeds reveal.

Cows Three
Dry season in The Rogue Valley is gradually on its way out. As fall approaches, moody landscapes with quickly changing skies have been stirring up a renewed desire to explore the local landscape. Yesterday I came across "Cows Three" of a young Longhorn and two Brahman cows on a farm off Butler Creek Road near Ashland.

Youth
Youth is not merely a part of life, it is a state of mind, which exists in a certain form of the will, in the inclination towards fantasy, in an emotional strength. In the triumph of courage over faint-heartedness, and lust of adventure over the desire for comfort. One does not grow old merely by the simple fact that one has lived a certain number of years, but only when one gives up ones own ideal, just as the years leave the traces on the body, so does the relinquishing of enthusiasm on the soul.
Horror, doubt, lack of security, fear and mistrust are the long years that lower the head and lead spirit to death. Being young means at the age of sixty or seventy, preserving ones love of the wonderful, one's astonishment at illuminating things, radiant thoughts, and audacious beliefs that one brings to events, the unappeasable desire of the child for everything that is new, and the appreciation of the pleasant and the joyful side of life.
You will be young as long as your heart accepts the messages of beauty, boldness and courage, the messages of the great and the strong, given to you by the world, a person or infinity. When your heart is all in shreds and when the snow of pessimism and the ice of cynicism are heaped upon you, only then will you be old and then may God have mercy on your soul.
